I saw this quote on facebook the other day and I thought it was so beautiful:
“We rise by lifting others.”
I’m not sure who said it but it sounds very much like the late poet Maya Angelou. I was inspired to paint it on a small canvas to hang somewhere in my apartment…
We’ll lift one another up but when people push us down, we’ll lift ourselves first.

November 17, 2015 at 1:12 amThis is such a beautiful quote, Lisa. I have heard of it before, but thank you so much for sharing it again. At times, life can get hard and it’s easy to think of ourselves all the time and forget about those around us. For instance, it’s so easy to focus on what we want – what we want to buy, how we want to look and so on. And as such, we might forget about what others around us think and neglect them at some point. The world does not revolve around us at the end of the day.
I love how you ended this post. So true. Before we can lift and help others, we have to lift and help ourselves first. We all have our limitations.

November 17, 2015 at 3:03 pmHi Mabel, you’re right and I know I’m guilty of thinking of myself and becoming overly concerned about things that don’t really matter in the big picture. Giving to others and helping is a great way to switch up that self centered thinking. Thanks for that reminder, Mabel!

November 16, 2015 at 7:47 pmHi, Lisa
What a beautiful quote. “We rise by lifting others”. this is human spirit,- work as a team.
I love the last statement too that when people push us down, we’ll lift ourselves first. because each of us is capable to do that.
Nice post, Lisa

November 17, 2015 at 3:00 pmThanks, Stella. I had to add that caveat because it is still important to help ourselves when we encounter people who don’t believe in this message. Why not raise the human spirit instead of putting it down, right? 🙂

November 16, 2015 at 11:20 amI definitely agree with you Lisa and everyone else, that’s a wonderful quote. I love inspirational and motivational messages and whenever I run across one it just seems to lift me up even more during my day so this is especially true.
Thanks for sharing it and have a wonderful week.

November 16, 2015 at 10:44 amI love that! It seems like today, people only want to drag each other down. But if we do that, we drag ourselves down. Maya Angelou was a wise woman.

November 17, 2015 at 2:57 pmHi Chrys, you’re exactly right. An important reminder. As it turns out it wasn’t Maya Angelou’s quote but Robert Ingersoll. Thanks to Abby for pointing that out.

November 11, 2015 at 6:13 pmI think it’s a wonderful quote and I’ve seen some variations of it. This one is my favorite. So simple. And every time I sit and remember and act on it, everything in my life gets better. Rising.

November 10, 2015 at 2:43 pmOh, I love this so much 🙂 And I think it’s an important message to remember, especially when so much of our culture (sadly) is me-me-me. It’s nice to slow down and think that together we are stronger and that we need to take care of each other. Thank you for sharing, my sweet. XOXO
