I’m still here. It’s been quiet here but I’m —STILL.
I’m still singing along to the radio
I’m still lying awake and staring at the ceiling
I’m still asking why
I’m still writing
I’m still measuring a teaspoon of sugar with a real teaspoon
I’m still listening
I’m still reading old, yellowed and dog-eared pages
I’m still dreaming
I’m still spreading peanut butter on fresh bread
I’m still counting steps to heaven
I’m still moving forward
I’m still curious
I’m still checking books out of the library
I’m still believing
I’m still remembering old friends
I’m still awake
I’m still planting seeds
I’m still STANDING
I’m STILL.
What are you STILL doing?

June 10, 2021 at 12:09 pmI’m still amazed at the wind as it blows across the hay waiting to be cut
and the yellow finches that dance on the stalks of grass
and the fireflies that rise up at night,
filling the lone hickory in the middle of the field
with flickering lights as if on Christmas
