I’m sharing a poem with you today. I wonder, can you relate? As much of my life lessons have taught me about valuing material goods over love and health, I don’t believe I’ve expressed it as well as with this verse.

Whoever “she” is has taught me, too.

SHE HELD HER HEAD HIGH

Even when they scoffed
At her sense of wonder
“Let her gaze at the moon and stars,
I have more important things to do

She held her head high

Through grace she rose above those
Who couldn’t care less for the little things all around
They took for granted
And couldn’t fathom her joy in the mundane

They laughed at her behind her back
Convinced of all she lacked
What they failed to see was her ability
To harness her fragile power into gracious energy
Reaching beyond anything they could see
She may have less but she was way ahead
For her grace was like a rocket
Shooting her to the stars

She held her head high

While her critics found mirth in mocking
Her simple appreciation
For life’s little treasures;
A moment in time, a heaven-sent pleasure
Once they came to her and sought her secrets
For they longed to fly as high
When their symbols of success failed to lift them

She explained:
When you forget the gifts you’ve been given,
It’s impossible to reach your pinnacle of living
Don’t forget to thank the universe
For your success did not come
Without divine assist

They tried to see with blind eyes and
While they forgot to remember
Good fortune and easy comforts
They quickly disregarded her simple ideas

She held her head high

They laughed behind her back but it was they who lacked
And could not grasp an idea so abstract,
For without coins and currency
It wouldn’t have value
So no matter how high they rose
In the system’s ladder of gold
They still needed more, to prove they had won

She held her head high

When they saw her from afar
They were puzzled by their growing disdain
For one so beautiful needed so little
And even she glowed from within
Her aesthetic was priceless and immune
To games and outside shame

She danced ethereal
With one foot on the ground
One hand reaching to the sky
She blessed her life and all the little things in it
For nothing came easily and without trying

She held her head high

This is lovely and I especially like that it ends on a positive note with her head still up high.

It’s all about knowing your own self worth and having the strength to hang onto the confidence you have in yourself. Great poem!

I don’t know who “she” is either, but I think she has taught me a lot. She reminds me of Scarlet a bit!

She may be mocked at Lisa, she knew her worth and that’s why she could fly beyond the narrow boundaries set for her. People’s expectations don’t make us, it’s our own belief in our capabilities that make us dance with “head held high.” Well articulated sentiments that resonate with me.
