Hello, Sleevers, I hope you are keeping well. I have missed our back and forth here at the blog. I have been absent lately, but I have a good excuse. Book release!
My debut novel, Daughter of the Moon is finally ready! Release date is October 3, 2024 for the eBook and October 6th for the paperback.
Click for the e-book on Amazon.com or Amazon.ca
The print book will be available for purchase on October 3, 2024 on Amazon.
The last few months I have been absorbed in revisions and formatting. It is certainly a great feeling to bring this manuscript into fruition.
“She was the infant found on the proverbial doorstep. Now she’s looking for answers.
Joele Frey is determined to get to the bottom of her inauspicious beginnings with the help of a little magic, good kismet, and her best friends. As she decides to seek out her birth mother, what she discovers is heart wrenching and far from her fantasy. Consequently, Joele must come to terms with loss and betrayal. Can she overcome her birth mother’s past?
Daughter of the Moon explores the themes of mother-daughter relationships, friendships, and self-discovery. Set in the small town of Logan’s Landing with plenty of charm and homey delights, Daughter of the Moon is a cozy and captivating read.”
The novel is categorized in women’s fiction, literary fiction, small town. Joele is an aspiring artist and reads tarot at the local tea house where she waitresses. She was getting over a breakup when faced with much more devastating news. We follow Joele’s journey into finding her roots, her lineage and much more. Her best friends figure prominently in her difficult journey. Joele also makes a spontaneous decision to go to Paris alone.
When I was writing this book and had come to Joele’s decision to take off to Paris, I really didn’t know where to begin that chapter other than googling a map of Paris, as well as drawing on my own experience. However, exactly at that time, while out for a walk I passed a neighborhood ‘free library’. What do you know that there was a book on French Cuisine tucked in there among many books. When I spotted it, I knew it was a sign. My MC definitely must go to Paris!
Prior to this gift from my muse, I had wondered if Joele’s trip to Paris was just too cheesy, too predictable. Well, my answer came just when I needed it. Dear Sleever, I believe you will enjoy Paris through Joele’s experience as much as I enjoyed writing that chapter. And I really didn’t write that much about French cuisine…well, you’ll have to read the book to find out. 🙂
I consider this a coming-of-age story however Joele is in her mid-twenties and certainly mature and on the right path to independence and living on her own terms. The book also explores themes of mothers and daughters, blood vs. adoptive. Will she be able to overcome her mother’s past?
Thanks for popping in to check out my news. Your support and friendship has been a highlight here at the blog. Leave me a question or comment!

November 7, 2024 at 2:09 amHi Lisa,
Congratulations on the release of Daughter of the Moon! I’m so excited for you—what an incredible journey it must have been to bring this book to life. The way you describe Joele’s journey of self-discovery, her search for her roots, and her deepening friendships draw me in. I can already tell this will be an emotional, yet hopeful read. I love that you’ve weaved in magic and kismet, along with Joele’s spontaneity in taking a trip to Paris—such a unique twist!
I’m especially intrigued by the themes you’ve explored, particularly the complicated mother-daughter relationships. The way you describe Joele’s growth and her challenging yet empowering journey has me eager to dive into her story. Also, your muse’s timely discovery of a book on French cuisine made me smile—it’s these little serendipitous moments that add such authenticity to a novel. I can’t wait to read the book on release day—best of luck!

September 25, 2024 at 11:25 amCongratulations on your upcoming publication! Your title reminds me of a recent publication of poetry which I need to write a review, “The Way the Moon” by Holly Haworth.
