No more laissez-faire
Sway of the hips
For summer’s long gone
And with it our swagger
Autumn, she lays bare
The branches of our past
Our secrets dangling there
Of birch and bruises
Boots for kicking
The gilded leaves whispering
“Cold is coming”
But for the briefest moment,
What glitters is gold

September 20, 2019 at 4:22 amThat is such a beautiful poem Lisa! Truly. You really captured the feel of Autumn – I’m not a fan of at all. Burrrrr…cold is coming that is for damn sure. Keep it Mother Nature!. HAHAH!
lisa
September 21, 2019 at 2:22 amThank you, Kim! 😀 I’ve been more a fan of autumn since I have left the prairie winters behind. I used to get sad at the approach of autumn, knowing the deep freeze was imminent. West coast winters have allowed me to revel in autumn.
I guess I’m saying, I get your position on mother nature keeping it away—hahaha. Your winters are cold and the darkness is so hard…eek. Let’s enjoy the colors while they’re here.

September 16, 2019 at 8:26 amWhat a beautiful poem, Lisa! I’ll always cherish summer as my very favorite season of all, but try to embrace sweater weather by putting things on the calendar that we look forward to–pumpkin picking, hot chocolate making, and “leaf foraging” at the park. But still…I sure do miss that sweet summertime weather!;-)

September 18, 2019 at 9:29 amSummer is luxuriously delicious. The warm, sunny mornings when the sky is already bright blue…now it’s raining. No, it’s POURING. Sigh. I love your list of autumn activities. It does help to have traditions. I bet Augusten delights in those fall rituals.

September 16, 2019 at 7:47 amI get my swagger in autumn. 😉
I loved your poem. You should share more of them here.

September 18, 2019 at 9:27 amAh, yes, that’s awesome, Chrys! Thank you so much for your encouragement.

September 15, 2019 at 9:27 amNicely written. I love the change of seasons when winter is changing to spring and especially when summer is changing to fall because fall is my favorite time of year.
lisa
September 15, 2019 at 10:29 pmThanks, Suzanne. You like Pumpkin spice latte? I haven’t had one yet but it’s getting colder here so it’s tempting.
Suzanne @ The Bookish Libra
October 20, 2019 at 8:30 amI know people like to make fun of the PSL craze, but I do enjoy the lattes. I also really enjoy warm spiced apple cider. Both of those drinks just scream autumn to me. 🙂
lisa
October 21, 2019 at 2:18 pmWarm apple cider always reminds me of Halloween. I do love anything apple. Still have to get a PSL!!

September 10, 2019 at 2:26 pmThat is some beautiful poetry, Lisa! I loved it so much. Since it’s in the 90’s this week, I have yet to feel any change in seasons just yet!
I LOVE fall. It’s so very nostalgic to me. I especially love walking in the fall. Once it gets really cold, I tend to wimp out and not go walking anymore- so I cherish my ‘final days of walking’ as the season turns… to winter. (Yuck. I’m not a winter girl!)
lisa
September 11, 2019 at 8:13 amThank you, Chris! I don’t often share my poetry but I think—why not? It’s still warm here, too. I love the fall, too. I tend to walk/jog outside all year, rain or shine. It’s hard to get motivated some rainy days, but once I’m out there it feels awesome. Enjoy your fall walks, Chris!

September 9, 2019 at 7:20 amWhat a beautiful poem, Lisa <3 There's always something so raw and unforgiving about Autumn, right? It's my favorite time of year; always so invigorating, the way the air smells and how alive I feel in these fall months.
Hope you had a great weekend, my sweet! XO
lisa
September 9, 2019 at 11:40 amThanks, Charlotte. 🙂 Yes, I suppose it’s back to the impending cold that we know is coming. That’s true and I think it is our old habit of ‘back to school’ season that give us that feelin of renewal.

September 8, 2019 at 6:53 pmI’m especially grateful for the change of seasons this year because my new rental only has a small window AC unit upstairs and it’s not very effective! At least it’s not overly hot here for too long, but still.
lisa
September 9, 2019 at 11:37 amHi Jeri, I hope your move went well and hope we’ll hear more about it at your blog. Hope the AC unit is good to get you through these last couple of weeks. It can either be hot or who knows? Anything during the change of seasons. Foggy.

September 6, 2019 at 6:43 amMy goodness, Lisa, this should be in a book.
Or framed. No doubt.

September 6, 2019 at 5:56 amI am glad you are sharing your poetry Lisa – it’s really nice.
I love autumn, its colors, the fresh air and still some sun. I love the atmosphere, the comfort of home and hot chocolate at tea time…
Have a lovely day and happy new season to come

September 7, 2019 at 3:40 pmThank you, Marie. Me, too. Love those autumn-y things!

September 5, 2019 at 6:36 pmEach season has its own charm and you have captured it beautifully Lisa. Bare branches do reveal all that was hidden there, evoking a thousand memories. I love Autumn for the hues it paints all around us besides providing relief from summer days. May your Autumn be as blissful as the swagger of summer.
lisa
September 5, 2019 at 7:11 pmThank you, Balroop. Me, too. I love the color nature shows us this time of year. Well not for a few weeks yet. We still have the beautiful flowers blooming. I also love the cooler evenings and mornings. It is a relief from the heat.

September 5, 2019 at 7:09 pmAw, thank you Jane! Oh, that’s so true about August. And once that month is gone it really feels our fling is over. I’ll pop over to read!
