Challenge: If you can guess the Christmas song that the following lyric excerpts belong to, then you win a free copy of my upcoming book I Don’t Drink Alone and Other Lies.
Simply write the song to which the lyric belongs (in order) in the comments section.
Challenge closes December 24th at midnight, moments before Santa comes clattering down your chimney.
Here goes:
“…I’m gonna make a lot of money and quit this crazy scene…”
“…Now we are tall and Christmas trees are small…”
“…folks dressed up like Eskimos…”
“…how many people are crying, people are dying, people are asking for love?…”
“…door bells and sleigh bells and warm schnitzel with noodles…”
“…bells on a wintry night with a friendly fire burning warm and bright,,,”
“…Once bitten twice shy, I keep my distance but you still catch my eye…”
“…you will get a sentimental feeling, when you hear voices singing let’s be jolly…”
“…someday soon we all will be together if the fates allow…”
“…a long time ago in Bethlehem the holy piper said…”
Good luck, everyone and have yourself a Merry little Christmas.

February 12, 2024 at 4:00 amI’m not very well versed with Christmas songs, but this seems very fun. Already into the year 2024 as I am typing this. I hope you are doing well and enjoying your time writing, Lisa 😊

1. River by JM
2 1st of May – Bee Gees
3. It’s Beginning to Look a lot like Xmas

5. My favourite things – many of your readers got that one
6. I think “Twas the night before Christmas”. Not sure on this one?
7. lol – wham – Last Christmas – (confession – I had to phone a friend to get this one)
8. Rockin Around the Xmas tree
9. Have yourself a merry little Christmas- my wish to you and your readers!!
10. Mary’s Boy Child –
Great list of seasonal favs – you’ or your readers will have to tell me #4.
“The smoke is rising in the shadows overhead
My glass is almost empty
I read again between the lines upon each page
On this winter’s night with you”
Merry Christmas.

December 17, 2023 at 6:49 pmKevin, awesome job! Yes, I hope someone gets #4 before Christmas lol.
Okay, well, challenge accepted. I have to think about those lyrics you’ve shared. I have no idea off the top. But before I google I will try to figure it out.
Merry Christmas, Kevin. Have a relaxing holiday.

December 26, 2023 at 8:29 amThe song lyrics you shared are from Sarah McClauchlan’s A Song For a Winter’s Night. I had a hunch it was a song of hers but I didn’t know this one, Kevin. I had to cheat and google the lyrics 🙂 Gordon Lightfoot and Blue Rodeo also sing a song of the same title but they are not the same song. Hm. Only in Canada. 🙂 Happy new year!
La Contessa
December 15, 2023 at 7:52 amI could NEVER name a song or its singer for that matter!!
I will sit this one OUT!!
Merry CHRISTMAS‼️
Xxx
lisa
December 16, 2023 at 11:36 amNo problem, LA CONTESSA. It’s not a game everyone enjoys. P.S. I wouldn’t expect you to name the singer 😀 Merry Christmas to you and your loved ones! xx

December 15, 2023 at 7:43 amHello Lisa,
No way I can know them all…
But the #5 one is from the song “my favorite things” isn’t it!? From the sound of Music – one of my favorite movie!
May you and your loved ones have a lovely festive season and a fabulous Christmas too! 🧡

December 14, 2023 at 4:59 pmFun quiz. No way I could hazard a guess at them all, but definitely know a few of them. Merry Christmas Lisa. <3

December 14, 2023 at 4:26 pmYou know I love this game and especially less traditional Christmas songs which can become seasonal favourites. I know half of them right off. But only half. Lol
IMHO – I think the spirit of giving should be more a part of seasonal song favs – and this belongs on seasonal playlists:
“When darkness comes
And pain is all around
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down”
lisa
December 14, 2023 at 6:32 pmYes, I thought you’d enjoy this one. Only half? I’m curious whether you guessed #4.
Bridge Over Troubled Water. A classic and I agree it applies to the season. Nice addition!
