Madonna and Abba-Help!

What does it say about me that I have Madonna and Abba on my ipod?  OLD? or CLASSIC?  Pressing play reminds me ‘I”m old classic”.  My kids are forever making fun of my itunes library, the brats.  I ask them to update it and they only look at me and sigh “Teach your children PARENTS well.. their parent’s CHILDREN’S hell…” (CSN&Y) On that note, I would love to get some new song suggestions from you!

What's Your Story?

AS each  new day unfolds, so does your story.  Will you tell yours?  How will you tell it?  Will it be a comedic play, a romantic novel, a love song, a dramatic film or serious documentary.  Maybe  how isn’t as important as the simple fact

Royal Dysfunction

Royal DysfunctionThe Royal Tenenbaums is a film about family relationships including divorce and separation.

It is one of Wes Anderson’s finest films featuring twisted, kinky, loving,  cheated and needy people who make up a mostly neurotic family.

Why would I choose to highlight this film on my blog?  Simple.  It’s a great example of taking situations related to divorce and making them funny…and…if the Royal Tenenbaums can get through their outrageous problems so can we…

Be The Bad Girl

One of the most startling changes during my divorce, was my perception of myself. That sounds strange but when I was married I was a good girl.  I was a good wife.  I understood my role and made the best of my marital life.  I played by the rules.  I fulfilled expectations as a soccer mom, school volunteer and as a friend and business wife.  I wouldn’t call myself a trophy wife as that would suggest I spent many hours primping and looking

This post has been updated on October 7, 2020.

Sometimes we just need to curl up on the couch with a cup of tea or glass bottle of wine and watch a good movie.  Even better if we can relate to the main character’s situation, dilemma or pain.  It’s time for our Divorce movie count down…

LISA’S DIVORCE MOVIE Countdown…

12. Blue Valentine

Ryan Gosling & Michelle Williams-this film is phenomenal and it’s not higher on my list because it is just so damn hard to watch. Their love story is told in flashbacks while we watch these two fall out of love and end in divorce.  Blue Valentine gets top marks for its darkness but don’t watch this if you’re already suffering from depression…seriously…heed my warning

The Good Wife

The Good WifeAre you tired of being the Good Wife?  I’m sure you’ll agree that when we say our vows we have the best intentions.  Our twenty-something selves actually believe in the fairytale.  We are dressed in a fluffy white dress looking like the icing on a cupcake.  Yet, somehow this didn’t tip us off that it wasn’t realistic.  So, we became

Mourning Our Lost Fairy Tale

We’ve grown up only to learn Cinderella’s carriage was a pumpkin to begin with.  Our foot never fit the glass slipper.  Sleeping Beauty ate a bad apple and maybe we took a bite from the same one.  We’re not in Kansas anymore!  Learning the fairy tale doesn’t always have that happy ending is a hard lesson, even for cynics.

I guess I’ll start at the beginning to blast off my new site and blog.  As you would have read in my bio, I made the most difficult decision of my life in 2005.  I made a decision to end my marriage.  It was not a decision I took lightly but when I made it nothing could change it back, that’s how sure I was about it.  Since then I have become stronger, wiser, more tolerant, less judgmental of others, happier, and more fulfilled.  Although I have gone through the stumbling blocks, including anguish, tears, anger and fear I have made it to the other side.  The point is it is not easy to accomplish freedom, but is worth every tear.

I was inspired to write The Great Escape; A Girl’s Guide to Leaving a Marriage partially as a form of therapy,
