book loveAre you a passionate reader like me? Which books are the ones you couldn’t live without?  Books have helped me through just about everything for as long as I can remember.

During childhood when I felt like I wasn’t fitting in, books were my go to comfort.  Harriet The Spy, Charlotte’s Web, Diary of Anne Frank, Are You There God It’s Me Margaret? are only some examples of my favorites.  My divorce was no different.  This was a time I relied on my self help books.  I was hungry for anything spiritual.  My nightstand was stacked with books like The SecretMake Money Not Excuses, Joint Custody With a Jerk and one of my favorites 10 Conversations to Have With Your Children

At the end of each chapter in my book I recommend more reading and offer lots of references to further assist you in your divorce journey.  I do not recommend anything I haven’t read myself.

Goodnight Moon was my daughter’s favorite when she was about 3.  We read this bed time story every night for many years;

our well loved copy

I always get excited when I find a used book store.  I could spend hours in there looking for special copies of classics.  Sometimes I like the feel of an old copy that’s soft and tattered versus the crisp pages of a brand new copy.  Isn’t that strange?

I started a book club many years ago.  It was fun to get the girlfriends together for some book talk and wine, of course. What is great about a book club is you read books you never would normally, opening you up to new authors and genres.

Lastly, I just have to share my proud moment.  When my book was first put on the shelf.  I was officially a published author, something I dreamed of but doubted would happen.

      Thank you Inner Chick! I’ve gotten lots of great feedback on the cover. I like it’s optimistic message. Thanks for your recommendation on post divorce dating. My readers will appreciate that for sure. I’m in a happy relationship (lucky me).

    What an inspirational post on the power of books to help heal. Wonderful post and delicious images and so sweet to see that childhood book in there too.

    When things get touch I often turn to one of my books written by the Dalai Lama, Transforming the Mind is one that comes to mind, he has such a practical yet inspiring way of making us see things from a more healthy perspective and becoming a better person at the same time. I have a mini Pema Chodron book by my bed for the same reason, one quote each night before sleep, like spiritual medicine.

    More recently The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harodl Fry helped me get through a week of a nasty flu! Nothing like good fiction for escapism.

      Hi Claire, thank you for sharing your favorites! I will check out that Dalai Lama you refer to, I can always use positive encouragement. I love your bed time ritual ‘one quote each night before sleep’. Great idea. p.s. thanks for sharing the links, too.
